Tel@bureau provides
the solution to bringing remote areas of the world into the mainstream
of global communications. Using state of the art components a Tel@bureau
desktop contains everything needed to provide communication, education,
training, and commercial resources to communities that lack access to
traditional telecommunication infrastructures. Tel@bureaus are completely
self-contained workstations, providing their own solar power source, satellite,
cellular and/or wireless communications. A network of Tel@bureaus may
be connected to a central hub to form a complete telecommunications infrastructure.
Communities that are
widely dispersed will benefit from the complete telecenter, which provides
a central hub serving as many as 60 Tel@bureaus deployed in a 30 km. radius
(more with repeaters). A complete telecenter has 30-60 bureaus packed
into a container, which when unpacked is a fully functional office. This
becomes the hub of the installation.
Tel@Bureaus are installed
in schools, health facilities, government offices, community centers,
tourist facilities, and small shops or enterprises. A single community
Tel@Bureau serves as a school room, clinic, agricultural office, business
center, and NGO office. They go in any building that provides public access,
or many buildings. Tel@Bureau is a box that opens into a fully equipped
desk--or Bureau. It is self-contained and fully equipped with computer
and peripherals, applications and software, telecom connection to Internet,
and solar power system.
Tel@Bureau expands
with additional specialized equipment and software for telemedicine, distance
learning, e-commerce, e-government, radio broadcasting, and environmental
monitoring. The Tel@Bureau web site and Intranet provides content and
services for these applications.
