TELECOMMUNICATIONS EXPERT

Dr. Jay Ramasastry is an internationally known expert and executive in the field of telecommunications with over 30 years of experience. He has a Ph.D. degree in Communications. He has held technical management positions at NASA, Western Union, CBS Broadcast Group, Qualcomm, and Winstar. Dr. Ramasastry has managed groups involved in the design and implementation of several telecommunications systems. Dr. Ramasastry was among the core group of the founding team at Qualcomm. At Qualcomm, he was involved in the development of the CDMA-based wireless technology and also the Globalstar mobile satellite system. At Western Union, he was involved in developing and implementing VSAT-based data and voice networks.

Dr. Ramasastry provided support to the Indian Telecom Commission in 1991 in conceptualizing and implementing wireless local loop networks for providing low cost telephone services in the rural and suburban areas of India at a time when only 5% of the households had any telephone service in India. He has also been involved in wireless telephone projects in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico. He implemented satellite-based telephony services for remote areas of Alaska in the 1970s.

Dr. Ramasastry has published over 100 papers and has 3 patents. He is an expert consultant to many companies. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and a member of the IEEE Consultants Network of Silicon Valley. In 2001, he was the General Chairman of the Annual Technology Symposium organized by the Wireless Communications Association International (WCIA). Dr. Ramasastry has also been active in the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) activities, and has participated in seven World Radio Conferences (WRCs) as a member of the U.S. Delegation.
